Why Electric?

The Future of Driving Starts with Electric

Step into the world of electric mobility. Choosing an electric vehicle means embracing a cleaner, more efficient way to drive. With zero tailpipe emissions, EVs help reduce your environmental impact while improving air quality. They’re also more cost-effective to run, with lower energy costs and reduced maintenance thanks to fewer moving parts. The driving experience is smooth, quiet, and responsive, making every journey more enjoyable. With convenient home charging and an expanding public network across the UK, going electric is not only practical—it’s a smarter, future-focused choice for everyday driving.

Electric vehicles typically cost less to maintain than petrol or diesel cars. With far fewer moving parts, there’s no need for oil changes, and components like brakes often last longer due to regenerative braking, resulting in reduced servicing and repair expenses over time.

EVs provide a refined driving experience, delivering instant torque for quick acceleration and seamless power delivery. The near-silent operation also reduces noise pollution and makes everyday driving more comfortable and less fatiguing.

Charging is flexible and convenient, especially with a home charger where you can simply plug in overnight. In addition, the growing network of public charging stations—including rapid chargers—makes it increasingly practical to recharge while on longer trips.

Electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions during operation, which helps improve urban air quality and reduces your overall environmental impact, particularly when paired with renewable energy sources.

EVs convert a much higher percentage of energy from the battery into movement compared to internal combustion engines, meaning less energy is wasted and more is used to actually power the vehicle.

Types of Electric / Hybrid Vehicles Explained

Fully Electric

Our range of Fully Electric Vehicles (EVs) uses electric power alone to propel them and, because a fully electric powertrain will emit zero emissions, it is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport currently available. Powered by a high-quality battery, these electric motors use innovative technology to provide an incredible driving range of up to 500 miles in some models. Recharging the batteries is quick and easy via a home wallbox or public charge point. Iconic designs, incredible performance and groundbreaking technology. That’s what you can expect from Ocean’s fully electric range.

Plug-in Hybrid

The plug-in hybrid technology available from MINI and BMW combines power from a highly economical electric motor and the most efficient combustion engines currently available. Using electric power at low speeds and then seamlessly transitioning to fuel at higher speeds and on longer journeys, hybrids maximise the efficiency and performance of both powertrains. Charging of the electric battery is incredibly simple and, with an expanding network of public rapid chargers in supermarkets and service stations, your car could be fully charged by the time you’ve finished your shopping.

Electric Vehicle FAQ

Plug-in hybrid vehicles combine standard petrol or diesel engines with an electric powered motor. The electric battery that powers the motor needs to be charged at an external power supply.

Charging an electric car is very easy. It can be done at home via a standard electrical outlet, via a specially installed charge point, or at a public charging station. The availability of public charge stations is increasing all the time with points available at most supermarkets and shopping centres.

Running costs for electric cars vary depending on the make and model, but it is estimated to be around 4p per mile.

The maintenance of a hybrid vehicle should cost no more than that of a standard combustion engine vehicle.

For most car owners, their car spends most of its time at their home so, of course, it is possible to charge your electric car at home. Speak to the team at Ocean about initiatives to support the installation of a specially designed home charge point.

Your hybrid car can be charged quickly and easily by connecting to a compatible home charge point or public charging station.

Hybrids save energy by using electric power on short journeys. This means they use fewer fossil fuels than standard combustion engines and produce fewer emissions.

An electric car uses energy stored in rechargeable batteries to power electric motors to run the car.

Hybrid cars can be incredibly efficient, but you can extend that further by taking good care of your car. Checking the tyres regularly and removing any additional weight from the car will improve its efficiency.

An electric vehicle (EV) uses a large traction battery to power an electric motor. This battery must be plugged into an external power source to maintain its charge.

Electric vehicles can be much cheaper to run than petrol equivalents but, as with any vehicle, this is affected by how well you care for your car. Better maintained cars achieve better performance which will therefore be more efficient.
