The X5 was the first premium SUV to sport the BMW badge, and is now in its fourth generation. With this all-new model, BMW has redefined the segment yet again, supplying the vehicle with the latest technology and superior handling dynamics.
The new X5 blends traditional BMW cues – such as a large twin-kidney grille and dual-ring headlights – with sharp creases and strong lines that distinguish the body. This combination of elegance and practical five-door appeal is a winning one, and the theme is carried through to the cabin, which boasts leather-upholstered seats and makes room for five adults. A 645-litre boot space should suffice for even the biggest of shopping trips. However, whenever you need more room, simply flip the car’s 40/20/40 split-folding rears seats to reveal 1,860 litres of cargo capacity.
The all-new X5 is available with a wide range of diesel and petrol engine options, each designed to deliver powerful, refined and efficient performance levels. A standard-issue 3.0-litre 265bhp diesel unit produces 0-60mph in approximately 6.3 seconds while returning up to 45.6mpg. Models powered by a 4.4-litre 575bhp petrol engine, meanwhile, ensure 0-60mph in a shade more than four seconds and a top speed of 155mph. Power is intelligently transferred to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system, delivering optimal traction in a variety of conditions.
As you would expect, BMW has packed the new X5 with the latest cutting-edge technology. For instance, a 10-speaker sound system features as standard, as does a 12.3-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system. All models include AUX and USB inputs too, as well as Bluetooth connectivity that allows audio streaming and hands-free telephone communication.
Your safety is of paramount importance to BMW and so it comes as no surprise that the X5 has been awarded a maximum five-star crash-test rating by Euro NCAP. The vehicle is fitted with protective reinforcements that minimise potential impact. Driver aids include Autonomous Emergency Braking that reduces the risk of collision.
