Ocean BMW Falmouth & Falmouth University
Ocean BMW Falmouth recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Falmouth University. This consisted of a BMW Micro Internship completed with Ashley Powell and Katie Edwards. Ashley is a BA (Hons) Interior Design student, in his third year of university, Katie is a BA (Hons) Textile Design student, also in her third year of university. They based their project around the all-new BMW iX3, our fully electric SUV, focusing specifically on colour, texture, and electric emotion. They worked with BA (Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography student Amara Underwood to capture the BMW iX3 at local spots around Cornwall. They used their skills to create engaging as unique creative content based around the BMW iX3 personalized to Ocean, capturing the car locally and relating back to the Cornish environment.

“Working with Ocean BMW was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the identity and personality of such a globally recognised brand such as BMW but right on our doorstep in Falmouth! The internship challenged us to produce engaging and unique content that promotes the all new iX3 while highlighting the stunning backdrop of Cornwall to be shared across Ocean’s social media channels. The team at Ocean were fantastic in giving us a wide brief with lots of scope to explore multiple creative starting points and having the confidence in ourselves as creatives even though our courses are not directly related to the automotive or advertising industries. Employing our skillset to a new area was an exciting and refreshing challenge allowing us to develop our current skills in software such as Photoshop but also learn new skills and software to meet the brief. A huge thanks again to all the team at Ocean for such a great experience and I can’t wait to see where this internship will take me in the future!”

“Working with BMW for this 30-hour internship, has been an amazing experience. This has challenged me creatively and professionally, whilst giving me the opportunity to explore the fully electric iX3. I was able have free range of the iX3 and utilised the stunning back drop of Cornwall, by organising photoshoots, with the help of the wonderful team at Ocean in Falmouth.“
The Final Work
Inspired by the classic, clean BMW branding, Ashley and Katie experimented with various techniques to create content that is clear, on brand and allows you to envision yourself in the BMW iX3 in Cornwall. Their designs are bold and exciting, they catch the eye and think outside of the box. The work perfectly brings together the BMW brand, and Ocean, as a locally owned dealership. A huge thank you to Falmouth University, and a massive well-done to Ashley and Katie. We look forward to working closely with the university again soon.
