With its refined yet robust good looks, the BMW X3 instantly catches the eye. Just as importantly, the vehicle provides a well-balanced driving experience and delivers superb grip on all kinds of surfaces. In fact, the X3 is just at home in off-road situations as it is in an urban context.
While this family-friendly SUV undoubtedly looks good, it’s been built with durability and performance in mind. The front fascia, for example, features BMW’s signature dual-kidney radiator grille, which incorporates an active air stream system, helping to deliver enhanced aerodynamics and improved efficiency. Inside, a spacious, comfortable and smartly upholstered cabin provides more than enough room for two full-sized adults in the rear compartment – or a trio of younger travellers. The vehicle possesses a 550-litre boot space, too. If you ever need more room for shopping, luggage and other items, simply flip the rear seats and you’ll have 1,600 litres of cargo volume at your disposal.
The X3 is typically installed with a 2.0-litre 190bhp diesel engine that delivers 0-60mph in less than eight seconds, returns as much as 53.3mpg and produces CO2 emissions from just 133g/km. If you crave even greater potency, select a model that is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel unit. This produces 680Nm of torque, 0-60mph in approximately 4.7 seconds, and a maximum speed of 155mph. Whichever engine you opt for, it comes with the latest fuel-saving technology and is turbo-charged for optimal efficiency and power.
The X3 is installed with a six-speaker sound system as standard (increasing to 16 speakers with top-of-the-range variants). Also included is a satellite navigation system, featuring an 8.8-inch display (or 10.3-inch touchscreen with top-tier trims). Bluetooth connectivity is provided as standard too, allowing you to stream audio content and make and receive hands-free mobile phone calls.
Awarded a five-star crash-test rating by Euro NCAP, the X3 comes with a host of safety features, including multiple airbags – and driver aids such as Autonomous Emergency Braking. The latter technology alerts the driver to potential collisions and applies maximum braking pressure in order to prevent impact.
