S 1000 RR Technical Info

BMW wanted to make a change to the superbike landscape, and they’ve done exactly that with the BMW S 1000 RR. This high-performance motorcycle has been through an extensive redesign and to say that it packs a punch would be an understatement. The swing arm is fully braced underneath and the tight chassis reveals a condensed engine that is over 4kg lighter than the previous release, to ensure optimum precision when taking on the roads ahead. The defined LED headlights give the front fascia an aggressive and dynamic look, and with Z-shaped rails that span across the contours, the BMW S 1000 RR may be a beast, but it’s also a thing of beauty. To make this bike more aesthetically pleasing, and to improve visibility, the front indicators have been relocated to the rear-view mirrors.

When you ride the RR, you can expect top performance not only on the road, but also on the circuit. The inline four-cylinder engine is able to spin at over 14,600 revs, whilst also giving over 113Nm of torque. The peak output has increased to 152 kW (207hp) at 13,500 rpm, which leaves the predecessor standard of 200hp lagging behind. To match the style of your bike to fit the sporty performance, the rearview mirror and number plate are easily detachable, so the RR can be effortlessly transformed from a road bike to a superbike.

As an optionally available extra to turn your RR into the ultimate racing machine, you can choose to apply the M package. With this, you can experience the pure thrill of sporty riding, as it reduces the weight of the bike by around 3.5 kg down to 193.5 kg. The classic multicolour paintwork in Light White/Racing Blue Metallic/Racing Red is sure to grab attention, and also signifies that your S RR has the ultimate high-performance features, like M Carbon Wheels, a lightweight M lithium-ion Battery, M sport seat, M chassis kit and so much more.

The BMW S 1000 RR incorporates new ShiftCam technology. This is a valve-timed system that utilises a camshaft, manipulating the intake and forcing it to operate at peak efficiency. The result? More torque and power are applied even in low and medium engine speed ranges, as well as lower energy consumption by over 4% and a smooth-sailing ride that is destined to impress. Features including a new timing concept, hollow-drilled titanium intake valves, and a self-reinforcing multi-disc, anti-hopping wet clutch (-20N) have been adapted on the S 1000 RR to optimise the weight, design and space. The handling and ergonomics have been improved thanks to the reduced weight of the engine, which is 4kg lighter than before - something that will be immediately noticed as you get on the bike. The S 1000 RR is smooth, sleek and will go down in history as being one of the best there ever was.

Road grip is not underestimated by the S RR, as there are four standard modes that allow you to progress in a variety of conditions: Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. For those who want to feel the thrill of racing, Pro mode is a special accessory with three additional modes Race Pro 1, Race Pro 2 and Race Pro 3 with DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), HSC Pro (Hill Start Control Pro), Pitlane Limiter and Launch Control.

As standard, the S 1000 RR comes fitted with a 6.5" TFT display, that can be used with the multi-controller to configure certain settings such as the throttle response incl. engine characteristics, the engine braking torque, the traction control (DTC) incl. wheelie control, ABS and DDC (Dynamic Damping Control). And with the push of a button you can adjust the settings while riding via DTC +/- Shift.
